Lisa J. Shives is the president and medical director of Northshore Sleep Medicine in Evanston, Illinois. She's a diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and is board-certified in sleep medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is also a member of the National Sleep Foundation and an official spokesperson for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
After receiving her medical degree from the University of Chicago in June 1999, Shives completed an internship in internal medicine at Yale University, completed her internal medicine residency at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, and completed a fellowship in medical ethics at the University of Chicago. She has worked as a hospital internist for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and as a sleep and pain specialist for Horizon Hospice of Chicago. Before starting her own practice, she completed a fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of Chicago.
Shives has given multiple lectures focusing on women's sleep problems and sleep issues unique to the elderly. She has a special interest in pediatric sleep disorders, which she says are vastly under-recognized and can cause serious academic and behavioral problems.
